Aafia from Pakistan to Afghanistan and from Afghanistan to US is illegal because
no extradition treaties exist between the countries. There was a major breach
of the Geneva Convention. Aafia was held captive in a third country without
counsillor access. Her basic civil and human rights were voilated. The Pakistani
government should have immediately challenged jurisdiction, taking a firm stand
and brought her back by linking her to further cooperation and diplomatic deals.
Taking a fabricated story to trial and getting her convicted for something that
never happened smells like a very sinister cover up.
Dr.Ishrat ul Ibad Khan
(Governor Sindh)
Dr.Aafia Siddiqi’s detention in the USA was an issue of fundamrntal human rights
and should be taken in that context. Every Pakistani wanted the release of Dr.
Aafia Siddiqi, who has been sentenced to 86 years in prison for allegedly firing
at US troops in Afghanistan and by granting their wish America could create a
soft corner for itself amongst the people of Pakistan. The governor offered full
cooperation with regards to the discharge of Dr. Aafia Siddiqi, adding that such a
move would improve US-PAKISTAN ties, which was the need of the hour.
Anis Raza Haroon
(Minister for Information and technology, MQM)
Aafia is daughter of the nation, she has been victimised. Agreat injustice has been
done sadly by a country that claims to be the champion of justice and human rights.
Dr.Fowzia and her mother have very nicely been running this campaign and have
suceeded in bringing all parties united to one cause and we too are with family.
International pressure needs to be applied to go back and look at the mistakes
and obvious flaws in the trial and make amends. I suggest campaign should be
international, diplomatic efforts are very important. Our government should direct
all the ambassadors world wide to raise this issue with their respective country
leaders and get international pressure on America. This is a campaign for release
of Aafia... to bring the daughter of the nation home, to bring justice where grave
injustice has occured, to unite a son with his mother,to unite a mother with her
daughter, a sister with her sister. May Allah give courage and guidance for us to
do the right thing.
