I would like to begin with the early life of
Aafia to make my point clear in front of
you. It is quite hard to summarize thirty
eight years of her life and eight years
of her imprisonment in few moments
but I would try my best to show you a
glimpse of Aafia’s personality. Who was
she and what were her ambitions? What
are the accusations against her and what
progress has been made in her case?
Our father was a doctor and our mother
was a social worker. We are three
siblings; the eldest brother who lives in
America then me, I am a neurologist
and a graduate from Harvard university
America, and then the youngest of
us Aafia. It is well-known that the
youngest child is the most beloved one
in the family so Aafia was apple of our
eyes. She was very dear to us not only
because she was the youngest but also
she was blessed with an extraordinary
wisdom. She always stood first in
her class and won innumerable
competitions. You name the competition
and she was on top of the list always.
She was never surpassed in any debate
or essay writing competition and thus
she had a lot of shields and certificates
which are preserved with us till today.
When Aafia passed her intermediate
examination in first class first position,
she was offered full scholarship to study
in America. Since our brother was
already there, our parents decided to
send her there to secure high education.
When she appeared in the test, she
qualified for Massachusetts University
of Technology, the number one
institute in the whole world. So she got
admission there and started her studies.
Since her childhood she was fond of
some things. When she was a small child,
