Payam e Haya: Please update
us with the recent progress in
Aafia’s case?
Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui:
In August
2013, Nawaz Government told us that
the cabinet has approved the accession
of Pakistan to a treaty with America
according to which Afia will be back
to Pakistan within 90 days. But now
more than 180 days passed and no
signs of Afia’s return are there. When
we probed them again in December,
they said by the start of 2014, Afia will
be amongst you but this promise like
all previous ones turned out to be lip
servicee. These actions of negligence
on the part of the government are
creating suspicions and qualms in
our hearts. In March we have started
an international movement which will
definitely exert pressure upon both
America and Islamabad inshaallah.
Payam e Haya: What is the
significance of month of March
in this struggle?
Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui:
Aafia’s
birthday is in March and in the same
month, she was awarded the honor of
“Pride of Pakistan” thirteen years ago
and then unfortunately her abduction
too occurred in March eleven years
back. So, all these events render this
month quite significant in our struggle.
